Sheffield City Council Pa

Sheffield City Council owns Ecclesall Woods, and cares for them through the Parks and Countryside Department. They are developing a base in the Woods, at the old Sawmill site, which will be a centre for activities and information. FEW and Parks-and-Countryside work closely together. - Visit

South Yorkshire Forest deals with all the ancient woodlands in Sheffield. The Ecclesall Woods Information Pack can be found on their website, and also details of all the other ancient woodlands in Sheffiled. - Visit

Beauchief Environment Gro

Beauchief Environment Group looks after the ancient woodlands on the opposite side of the Sheaf Valley to Ecclesall Woods. These include Lady Spring Wood, Old Park Wood, and some meadows. Their area runs behind Beauchief and Abbeydale Golf Courses. They work on woodland and footpath maintenance, hold talks, and produce a newsletter. - Visit

Friends of the Porter Val

Friends of the Porter Valley maintain and study the long strip of woodland along the Porter Valley, from Porter Clough to Endcliffe Park. Their current major project is the restoration of Shepherd Wheel, probably the oldest watermill in Sheffield. - Visit

Abbeydale Industrial Haml

Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is a restored 18th-century scythe works. It shows early integrated manufacture, from the production of crucibles for steel-making to the final inspection of the scythes produced. Originally water-driven, it later converted to steam. - Visit

Beauchief Abbey

The remains of this ancient abbey stand across the River Sheaf from Ecclesall Woods. It is still in use for Church of England services every week. It was founded in 1183, and probably was an early driver of Sheffield's industrial development. - Visit
