This book has three sections. The first is on common plants - trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants, and each species has at least one photograph. The second section is on the ecology of the Woods. The third is a list of all 532 species identified in the map sections including the Woods, and also a list of common names with the appropriate Latin names. 84 pp.

The species described are not limited to Ecclesall Woods, but can be found in other ancient woodlands in Sheffield. Chapters on Butterflies, Fungi, Moths, Birds, Mosses/Liverworts, Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians, Beetles, Hoverflies, Shieldbugs, Wood Ants and Dragonflies offer a good introduction and identification guide for the watcher.
